Dr. Ron Dembo
Founder and CEO
Dr. Ron Dembo is the Founder and CEO of Zerofootprint, a cleantech software and services company that makes environmental impact measurable, visible and manageable for businesses, governments, institutions and individuals. Zerofootprint’s solutions mitigate environmental risk and drive cost reductions through behavioural change.
Dr. Dembo is also the founder and former CEO of Algorithmics Incorporated, growing it from a start-up to the world’s largest enterprise risk-management software company, with offices in fifteen countries, over 70% of the world’s top 100 banks as clients, and consistent recognition as one of Canada’s 50 best managed companies. Prior to this, he had a distinguished ten-year academic career at Yale University where he was cross-appointed in Computer Sciences and Operations Research.
In May 2007, Dr. Dembo was made a lifetime Fields Institute Fellow. This fellowship is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Fields Institute, its programs, and to the Canadian mathematical community. He has authored over sixty technical papers on finance and mathematical optimization and three books, and holds a number of patents in Computational Finance and Software for Climate Change.
He currently sits on a number of boards and is a member of the Climate Change Adaptation Advisory Committee Canada and the UN HABITAT World Urban Campaign Steering Committee.
Antony Marcil
Executive Vice President
Antony Marcil has built award winning sustainability programs in virtually every industry sector and in more than 100 countries around the world. As Executive Vice President of Zerofootprint, Antony is dedicated to finding attractive growth opportunities by developing key business relationships and implementing our go-to-market strategy.
In the past 20 years, Antony served as the CEO of the World Environment Center and as CEO of Forest Stewardship Council Canada, focusing on areas such as energy and resource efficiency, environment, health and safety, accident prevention, response and mitigation, environmentally-driven tax reform, and responsible forestry. In 1997, Antony was named to the first, worldwide list of the Top 100 Figures in Environment, Sustainable Development and Social Issues by The Earth Times, a publication associated with the United Nations in New York and Geneva.
Previously, Antony headed Hoyles Niblock Overseas Limited, a Canadian telecommunications consulting engineering company in Iran, the Consulting arm of Interimco Limited in Ottawa and Permawick International N.V., a lubricants and automatic assembly equipment manufacturing company in Belgium.
Among his many talents, Antony speaks French, Spanish and Farsi. His recent awards include the 2011 Clean50TM and Clean16TM Natural Resources Leader, the 2008 PrintAction Environmental Innovator Gold Award and the 2008 PrintAction magazine Readers’ Choice Canada’s Ten Most Influential People in Graphic Communications. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and an M.B.A.
Keren Nafte
Part-time Human Resource Consultant
Keren has over 32 years of experience in the field of management, organizational design and leadership development.
In his native South Africa, after completing his university education, he joined a management consulting, where he ran workshops on management, team building and competitive strategies for clients working in a rapidly changing environment.
In 1987 he moved to Toronto and joined the Bank of Montreal. His focus at the Bank was on developing training materials for the Bank’s suite of mutual funds and retirement products. Keren successfully completed and taught a number of financial securities courses for the Bank.
Keren founded BelEsprit Inc. in 1990, which offered securities courses and workshops in the financial industry across Canada. By 2004, in response to growing demand, the company implemented an Executive Coaching Program, based on leadership development and team building. He currently works with a team of dynamic coaches dedicated to providing high quality services to companies in North America and Europe.
Keren was formally educated in South Africa graduating with a BA (Honours) in Social Work and an MBA and sits on a number of boards.
Omri Stern
Product Marketing Manager
Omri shares his passion for behaviour-based sustainability with a goal to enhance Zerofootprint’s products and services. As manager of product marketing, Omri is responsible for defining our value proposition, interpreting market trends, evaluating new business opportunities, observing the competition, and shaping strategic partnerships to enhance Zerofootprint’s position in the market. Omri also works closely with a team in order to communicate Zerofootprint’s positive impact and gather crucial feedback from users, clients, and fans in the environmental world.
Omri graduated cum laude with a Bachelors Degree in Diplomacy and Strategy from the Inter-Disciplinary Center, Israel.
Serge Babineau
Chief Software Architect
Serge has been leading technology companies for over 15 years developing complex systems and managing large R&D organizations. As Chief Software Architect of Zerofootprint , Serge brings a unique combination of engineering and business leadership. Prior to joining Zerofootprint, Serge held the position of Vice President of R&D within Constellation Software, a global vertical market software company, where he focused on Utilities and Smart Grid Technologies. Earlier in his career, Serge served as the Software Architect with a firm he joined in the early stages until it was sold to a public company where he took on senior management roles. Serge holds a B.Sc in Computer Science and an MBA from University of Moncton, as well as a PMP designation.
David Gambin
Sustainability Engineer in Training
David has a passion for the environment; he believes that sustainable technology is the most valuable tool for combating climate change. David is a Sustainability Engineer in Training at Zerofootprint, focusing on innovative new products. David helps design analytical tools that digest residential consumption data, provide reduction strategies and present visual feedback to the homeowner. David also performs Life Cycle Analysis for various clients’ practices as well as Carbon Offset calculations.
David has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto with a Minor in Sustainable Energy.
Sue Tran
Accounting Manager
Sue began her career as a Junior Auditor at Arthur Anderson & Co., where she was responsible for the evaluation of corporate accounts. Following this, Sue spent five years as a Divisional Controller at Perle Systems Inc., and later moved on to be an Accounting Manager for CBRE Asset Management before joining Zerofootprint. As well as being an Accounting whiz, Sue is also responsible for Zerofootprint’s carbon offsetting transactions, a vital contribution to both the global environment and realizing the true vision of Zerofootprint. On the brightest of days, you can usually hear her singing around the office.
Sue is Certified General Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Sebastian Cushing
Marketing and Communications Specialist
Sebastian communicates our brand to the world. He works through multiple channels including social media, web development, and public relations to implement new means of effectively communicating the Zerofootprint vision. Sebastian graduated with an Honours B.A. in Political Science and History from Victoria College at The University of Toronto. Prior to joining the Zerofootprint team, Sebastian worked at CBC Radio 1 and Verge Magazine covering stories from around the world. He also served as a fundraising coordinator for The Cambodian Land mine museum and Relief Fund.
Sebastian has travelled to over thirty countries for work and pleasure. He is fluent in Spanish and is an avid writer and musician. Sebastian comments, “Creativity is at the core of my work.”
Koby Bar
Product Manager
Koby, a jack of all trades, is responsible for planning, organizing and overseeing the software development process at Zerofootprint. Koby defines the scope of feature development, project scheduling and ensures the development team is meeting our ambitious milestones. Prior to joining Zerofootprint, Koby was Operations Administrator at Hillel of Greater Toronto and Business Analyst at BuzzBuzzHome Corp. In his previous life, Koby was also a paratrooper and combat medic in the Israeli army. Among his many hobbies, Koby enjoys backpacking around the world and learning local recipes to bring back to his friends and family.
Koby has a Honors Bachelor of Economics and Statistics from The University of Toronto, and he makes a killer cup of coffee.
Robyn Barclay
Executive Assistant
Robyn is Executive Assistant to Dr. Ron Dembo, Founder and CEO of Zerofootprint. In this capacity, Robyn combines her passion for environmental protection with her administrative and operations skills to assist in all areas of coordination and flow, and keeping initiatives on track.
Jump starting her career at a young age, Robyn worked closely with the Toronto Humane Society, coordinating special events and raising public awareness. Later she joined Scotia Capital Inc. as an Operations Administrator, and was quickly promoted to Operations Analyst with Scotia Asset Management LP where she spent 6 years managing special projects and administration for the Wealth Management division.
With a keen desire for international exposure, Robyn flew across the pond and spent two years abroad in England, landing at Gamma Finance LLP where she acted as Operations/Office Manager before joining the Zerofootprint team in 2012. Robyn has traveled to over 20 countries and enjoys immersing herself right into the local culture; a holistic approach similar to that of Zerofootprint. She focuses her spare time on volunteering, writing, and whipping up her world famous banana bread.
Mark Chandler
Sales
Mark has a distinguished track record of accomplishment in Sales, Marketing, Business Development and Project Management in the Software and IT industry. His experience includes developing and nurturing relationships with internal and external stakeholders at high tech companies like, Microsoft, Intel, Sony, Nintendo, ATI, AMD, Nvidia, Sega, Electronic Arts and Ziff Davis. His successes are based upon a commitment to excellence, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and on clients’ satisfaction with ROI and achievement of strategic goals and objectives.
Mark manages our Carbon Offsetting business and has been integral to helping develop the Zerofootprint Carbon Neutral Label Programme for clients such as Air Canada and Canada Post Corporation.
Mark is an entrepreneur and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
