RSK Professor of Environmental Sustainability, University of Chester – England In addition to his work with the University of Chester, Roy Alexander is the Technical Director of the village of Ashton Hayes’ “Going Carbon Neutral” project, an initiative that aims to create a sustainable, carbon-neutral community in rural England. Roy’s role in the project involves measuring and analyzing individual household and whole-community carbon footprints, as well as supervising the implementation of emission-reducing technologies. Roy Alexander is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and former Chair of its Biogeography Research Group. Head of the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Biology, Royal Ontario Museum – Canada Allan Baker joined the ROM in 1972, and is now Head of the Natural History Department and Senior Curator of Ornithology. Jake Eberts was born in Montreal in 1941 and grew up in Montreal and Arvida, Quebec. He attended Bishop’s College School in Lennoxville and graduated from McGill University (Bachelor of Chemical Engineering 1962) and Harvard Business School (MBA 1966). Eberts began his business career as a start-up engineer for L’Air Liquide in Spain, Italy, Germany and France. After three years on Wall Street, in 1971 he joined Oppenheimer & Co. in London, England, where he became Managing Director in 1976.In 1977 Eberts founded Goldcrest Films in London. From 1977 through 1983, Goldcrest financed the development and/or the production of “Watership Down”, “The Howling”, “Escape from New York”, “Chariots of Fire”, “Local Hero”, “Gandhi”, “The Killing Fields” and “The Dresser”. Together these films received 30 Oscar nominations, winning 15, including two for Best Picture (“Chariots of Fire” and “Gandhi”). In 1985 Eberts founded Allied Filmmakers, based in London and Paris, an independent feature film development and production company. Robert Vipond
Professor & Chair, Department of Political Science, University of Toronto – Canada
Professor Vipond has taught a variety of courses in Canadian and American politics at the University of Toronto, and won an Outstanding Teacher Award in the Faculty of Arts and Science in 1994. He was the first Director of the Centre for the Study of the United States. His research interests centre on Canadian and American constitutionalism. He has written extensively in these areas, notably Liberty and Community: Canadian Federalism and the Failure of the Constitution (SUNY Press: 1991), which explores the original meaning and contemporary resonances of the idea of provincial rights in Canada. Richard became the youngest president in The Explorers Club’s hundred-year history in 2002. He has worked in the Yucatan jungle of Mexico putting satellite collars on jaguars; climbed and sampled the most geologically unique volcano in the world, and participated in two expeditions to Antarctica to core glaciers for the purpose of climatological studies. He was also a member of the 2004 Yeronisos Island Expedition in Cyprus and led an expedition to bio-prospect for extremophiles and new life forms in Mount Kilimanjaro’s crater, resulting in the discovery of 29 new life forms. David Wheeler is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of Business at Plymouth University, UK. Prior to this appointment, he was Dean of Management at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia (2006-2009). He was Erivan K. Haub Professor of Business and Sustainability at the Schulich School of Business between 1999 and 2006, and Founding Director of the York Institute for Research and Innovation in Sustainability at York University. David’s career has spanned international business, the water industry, public policy, academia and international development. David was Executive Director of Environmental and Social Policy at The Body Shop International. This involved strategic oversight of sustainability issues and direct responsibility for The Body Shop’s award-winning sustainability reporting. Throughout his career, David has published articles in a wide variety of medical, academic and popular journals. Mr. Wiebe received a B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba, a PhD from McGill University, and a Diploma from the Senior Management Development Program of the Government of Canada. For the past 35 years, Mr. Wiebe has been an advisor to governments and corporations in the fields of sustainability, corporate governance and Asia Pacific relations, holding senior positions in both the public and private sectors.Currently, Mr. Wiebe is President and CEO of the Globe Foundation of Canada, President and CEO of the Sustainable Media Group LLC and President of Globe Advisors Inc. He is currently a Board Director of West Mountain Capital, Advantage BC and Eco Canada, and Chair of the Advisory Board of ERA Carbon Offsets Ltd. He is a member of the Government of Canada’s Cleantech Advisory Board and the Mayor of Surreys Clean Energy Advisory Network. Previously he was the President and CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, the Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Education Centre Network, Co-Chair of the Capital Markets Task Force of the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy, Canadian Chair of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC) and Chair of PBEC’s Corporate Responsibility Committee.
