Come be a part of the 2008 Toronto celebration of International Car Free Day! This year, we will close Yonge Street from Dundas to Shuter and feature activities on the street—free of cars between 10 am to 2 pm, as well as at Yonge Dundas Square.
We need volunteers to help us on the day of the event and make this year’s Car Free Day bigger and better! Volunteers are needed in organization and day of activities such as closure dedicated zones: Sports Area/ Play Zone/ Stage/ etc.
The Car Free Day initiative will give Canadian citizens the opportunity to open the debate and continue the dialogue on the conundrum that exists between the car and the city. The past one hundred years has seen the fossil-fueled vehicle claim pre-eminent rights to the cities and towns in this country. But as the environmental and health effects of smog and air pollution continue to make their way into the mainstream, individual citizens are demanding action: from governments, communities, families and friends.
