Water For Growth in the South East

Starts: Wednesday April 25, 2007

Schedule: 2007-04-25

Organizer: Institution of Civil Engineers and British Hydrological Society

Venue: Institution of Civil Engineers

Location: 1 Great George Street Westminster, London, United Kingdom

Water resources in South East England are under pressure. Water company supplies have been subject to drought orders recently and some supply areas are designated scarce status. Availability of water supplies for the large numbers of new houses planned for the South East is discussed widely and of interest to many including planners, water resource analysts, conservationists and politicians. Providing reliable supplies to new and existing water users without damaging the environment and coping with climate change and other risks represent major challenges in drawing up long term strategies. Work is underway to produce regional and national strategies for planning water resources to deal with these challenges. This meeting will discuss the latest developments in the Region and pressures experienced in planning for one development area. Speakers from the Environment Agency will discuss the latest strategies – their formulation, agreement and application.
