U of T Design Charette

If you build it, they will come.

Zerofootprint is committed to building a more sustainable future, and we’re teaming up the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design to come up with an blueprint of what that future will look like, and how it will work. The Zerofootprint design charette marks the convergence their strengths and ours. The U of T students are designing a “Zero Footprint” building a new location for Zerofootprint, Toronto Image Works, and celebrated photographer Edward Burtynsky’s studio, and using this as an opportunity to investigate the potentials of a sustainable architecture. They are focusing on an integrated sustainable design, with respects to the specific site in downtown Toronto, but also as an occasion for speculation on the future of architecture and the city. Zerofootprint is designing an innovative architectural materials calculator, which will allow designers to determine the embodied energy and carbon of the structures they put on paper.
