Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas are indispensable resources for power generation. However, their use also has consequences for our environment. It is well known that nitrogen oxides represent the main contributors to the formation of smog and acid rain. Statutory emissions limits were stipulated in many countries, in Germany by the Air Pollution Control Code (TA Luft and GFA-V) and in the US by the US Congress.
