Toronto, Canada… Join the zfp party! On 07/07/07, 1,000,000+ people will visit www.zerofootprint.net and pledge to reduce their environmental footprint by 10% in 1 year.

This party is happening on Live Earth day and is the kickoff to a global campaign to engage citizens of the world around reducing their footprint. Our goal is to show that together we can have as much positive impact on the planet as one country.

We are 1,000,000 + people who have jobs, disposable income and together represent an economy as large as one nation. This is a grass roots campaign. At its heart is the GoZerofootprint online platform, which for the first time combines a global environmental footprint calculator, social networking tools, business intelligence software and green content. It is free to use.

Party-goers can pledge and start using GoZerofootprint immediately or come back to the site later. Either way participants calculate their carbon, land, tree and water footprint, are advised on how to reduce it, are able to compare their behavior with other individuals or groups, and can form spontaneous groups that set environmental goals and track their success.

As individuals join the campaign and calculate their footprint, they can commit to certain goals to reduce it by 10 percent. Individuals might pledge to reduce their travel emissions or might commit to buying more local produce, for example.

The social networking aspects of GoZerofootprint will allow individuals to form groups around these goals. For example, through the calculator’s simulations, an individual could see the benefit of adding solar panels to their home and they might pledge to do it. With this pledge they would be able to see others who have committed to the same goal. Together these individuals could form a solar purchasing group.
