– Two new offices in Waterloo, Ontario and London, England make for greater eco-awareness –
Toronto, Ontario: Toronto gets a bad rap for considering itself the ‘centre of the universe’. Until recently, Canada’s largest city was the only host for a Zerofootprint office. Thanks to the visionary staff and a Canadian public hungry for change in a climate crisis, Zerofootprint has opened two new offices in Cambridge (Waterloo Region), Ontario and London, England.
The Zerofootprint Waterloo Region Office is located at the Rare Charitable Research Reserve, a 913 acre urban green space managed to preserve in perpetuity a diversity of significant landscapes.
“Our goal is to assist the citizens, particularly the young, through our educational programs to guide industries, institutions and governments located in the Region of Waterloo to become the first major municipality in Ontario to significantly reduce their collective carbon footprint,” explains Ken Dance, Project Manager for the new Waterloo branch. “Just as the Blue Box Recycling Program originated in Waterloo Region, we foresee significant leadership in the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions developing here.”
Not unlike Toronto or Waterloo Region, the Zerofootprint UK office will enable people, organizations and businesses in the UK, and the rest of continental Europe, to reduce their footprint, through working with local partners and organizations.
“We’re really happy to have a presence in the UK, where the environment is such a central issue,” says Peter Howard, Manager of Energy and Offsets at the new UK branch. “We will enable businesses, organizations, and people to learn, interact, educate and, ultimately, be more environmentally friendly between North America and Europe.”
“The expansion of Zerofootprint’s presence has been a mandate for our organization,” says Deborah Kaplan, Executive Director of Zerofootprint. “We have been working with the Waterloo region constantly and the UK is known for it’s ‘ahead-of-the-curve’ thinking when it comes to climate change; it is only fitting that we have offices in both regions.”
