TORONTO – Feb. 3, 2010 – The TUI Student Travel (Canada) Group of Companies have partnered with Zerofootprint, leading developer of tools to measure and reduce the environmental footprint of individuals and organizations, to neutralize the carbon footprint of all land transportation components of their educational tours for students. All of the Canadian Educational brands (Impact Educational Tours, School Voyageurs and Young Explorers in Toronto, Educatours and Jumpstreet Tours in Montreal) participate in this offset program.
The amount of CO2 created by motor coach travel during the tour is calculated by Zerofootprint and neutralized with the purchase of carbon offsets, which supports a large-scale forest restoration project in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.
Both the Toronto and Montreal offices’ commitment to the environment goes beyond their office recycling programs. They are traveling more responsibly, more green, and are leading the way by offsetting the carbon emissions of their motor coach trips as part of the Travel Green program.
“We commend the Canadian TUI Student Travel brands for its carbon strategy of first reducing emissions, and then offsetting them,” comments Ron Dembo, Founder and CEO of Zerofootprint. “This action highlights what many companies will be doing in the future – protecting the environment through carbon management.”
Since 2008, this collaboration has offset almost 4,420 tonnes of carbon dioxide; which is approximately the same amount of CO2 emitted from the consumption of over 10,000 barrels of oil or more than 1,800,000 litres of gasoline!
Committed to being agents for positive change in the educational travel industry, the offset program with Zerofootprint gives TUI’s Canadian Educational brands a great opportunity to reduce their organization’s carbon footprint and is part of their wider environmental initiative.
