Zerofootprint, SANYO Offer Carbon Management Tools
Companies join forces to benefit customers, share knowledge in long term, strategic partnership
By: Lauren Sigel
Zerofootprint, a Toronto-based company that helps corporations and multinational organizations measure and manage carbon footprints, and SANYO Canada, Inc., a subsidiary of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., have joined forces in a strategic multi-year partnership.
The two companies are sharing technology and tools in order to help customers of both companies manage their environmental impact.
The Zerofootprint Foundation , a non-profit organization, was founded in 2005. Zerofootprint Software was incorporated in early 2008 to focus on for-profit organizations. The company’s web-based VELO Carbon Management Software calculates an organization’s carbon emissions and usage, showing results in dashboards, reports and internal benchmarking that highlight appropriate actions for executives.
Through the new partnership, SANYO customers will now have the option to calculate their company’s environmental impact using Zerofootprint’s software that allows organizations to compare carbon usage to one another. Shared knowledge like this plays a large role in lessening carbon levels, says Ron Dembo, CEO and founder of Zerofootprint. “People aren’t interested in just numbers,” he says. “When they see how their carbon usage compares to other businesses, then they understand. That is what leads to the change.”
More and more SANYO clients are interested in not only energy efficiency, but carbon usage as well, he says. “A lot of clients are coming to SANYO, asking, ‘How can we reduce our energy footprint?’,” he says. “Companies used to primarily be interested in how many kilowatt hours they were using and how they could reduce energy usage and [costs], now they are asking, ‘How much carbon are we using?’”
The partnership gives SANYO the opportunity to increase exposure for its Smart Energy Solutions designed to assist companies with carbon reduction strategies.
