Welcome To The City and Zerofootprint Develop One-Minute Calculator for Meetings and Events

Handy Online Calculator Helps Meeting and Event Planners Estimate Greenhouse Gas Emissions Related to the Planning and Execution of Events

Toronto, Canada [April 22, 2010]—In recognition of Earth Day 2010, Welcome To The City (WTTC) and Zerofootprint have teamed-up to develop a new one-minute calculator specifically for the meetings, conventions, and events industry. The One-Minute Event Calculator estimates greenhouse gas emissions related to the planning and execution of events, allowing organizers to better plan their reduction efforts. A link to the calculator can be found on all pages of the WTTC Website (access the cities via the homepage at http://www.wttc.com). The One-Minute Event Calculator is free to use and takes, literally, one-minute to complete. Click here to see the One-Minute Event Calculator page.

“Our Website is all about providing meeting and event planners with the information and tools that help make their jobs fast and easy,” says Andrew Maxwell, a WTTC partner. “With that in mind, we have worked with Zerofootprint to develop a tool that is easy to use and provides the kind of information planners need to make good decisions around the ‘greening’ of their events.”

“The One Minute Calculator is a simple but powerful tool to help event planners estimate their carbon footprint and gain insights to where it can be reduced,” says Ron Dembo, founder and CEO at Zerofootprint. “The ability to engage the events industry and help drive organizational changes are critical to reducing greenhouse gases. At Zerofootprint we are committed to helping create standards and best practices, and making it easier for businesses to participate in the battle against climate change. We are excited to work with WTTC in spearheading these efforts for its membership.”

With the One-Minute Event Calculator, organizers can choose the activities they would like to measure - from the energy used to the waste generated. The process is simple. Planners choose their location from a drop down menu then fill in their data under four areas: event information, travel, paper, waste and food. After C02 emissions are calculated, planners can then decide whether to neutralize a portion of or all emissions via Zerofootprint’s portfolio of ISO compliant offset portals.

WTTC helped develop the specific data inputs in cooperation with Zerofootprint. This is the first time the two companies have worked together on such a project.
