Toronto, Canada – 06 May, 2008: The Toronto Renewable Energy Co-operative (TREC) is launching a unique and exciting new festival on May 7-10 at Exhibition Place to showcase renewable energy technologies and energy conservation using a fun, interactive approach that will appeal to people of all ages. The Kids’ World of Energy Festival will take place over four days beginning with a schools program on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, ending with the Family Wind Energy Day on Saturday May 10th.
More than 50 educational activities, including hands-on learning, visual displays, speakers and live performances will be offered and organised around various themes. “This is going to be an exceptional, first-of-its-kind event” says Judy Lipp, TREC’s new Executive Director. “With over 3,000 kids registered to visit during the school days, we are excited about the opportunity to educate the next generation to be wiser about using and saving energy”. Grade 5 students and teachers from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the Toronto Catholic District School Board will attend the school days this year, participating in tours of the wind turbine, planting a green roof, building solar boats and cars, calculating their carbon footprints and making hot chocolate with pedal power, to name only a few of the unique activities on offer.
