The chatter in the halls of the Pan Pacific hotel, hours after British Columbia introduced North America's first true carbon tax, proved the old saying – better the hit to profits you know than the vague threat to the bottom line that you can't hope to quantify.
“Well, at least you know what the numbers are,” said one fund manager to another, between sessions where alternative-energy types were pitching for investment capital at a CIBC World Markets conference.
